People in our part of the world are most definitely very emotional. They are quick to form opinions and indulge in behaviors that at times defy logic and lead swiftly towards negativity.

The frustrating part is that before each election year, most of us promise to stay away from the mistakes of the past. However, as soon as the D-day is close-by we decide to throw common sense out of the window and indulge in the same old nonsensical behaviour.

So, with elections around the corner, it is time to revise the 3 oft repeated mistakes that we make during the election year in the hope that we might save ourselves from repeating them!

Pakistan over the years has seen corruption scandals surface against virtually all well-known politicians in the country. If not from a financial perspective then at least from a moral perspective perhaps, there is no candidate for the post of Prime Minister who enjoys a corruption-free image publicly.

Still, Pakistanis, instead of looking for honest people to lead them will make their decision on the basis of who seems to be the “lesser evil.” Eventually, even their education levels will matter little as scores and scores of citizens will be happy voting and siding with politicians they themselves know are corrupt!

The worst part perhaps begins a week or two before elections when polarization begins to take effect and leaves even family members vulnerable to arguing over strangers (politicians) who other than election days care little for the general public.

It matters little which political system is in place. Regimes around the globe plunder national wealth and deprive the very people they require support from of financial prosperity.

So, like in every other election, Pakistanis will argue with one another or write stuff that will end up spoiling their own and someone else’s mood  and that too for people who once in power are likely to mug them all over again!
