1. The Panama Verdict

Pakistan’s political landscape changed dramatically following the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s verdict on the Panama Papers scandal that resulted in disqualification of the former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif.

2. Announcement of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Ahead of Shehbaz Sharif

Soon after the decision Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was elected as the next Prime Minister of Pakistan. Since Abbassi was preferred for the premier’s slot ahead of Nawaz Sharif’s own brother Shehbaz Sharif, rumors of a possible rift within the Sharif family began to circulate minutes after the nomination was announced.

3. A PML-N cabinet without Chaudhry Nisar

Former Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was not made a part of the PML-N cabinet that was formed under the newly elected Prime Minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. Speculations of a rift within the ruling party grew further after the development.

4. Ayesha Gulalai’s Allegations

Accusing PTI chairman Imran Khan of “ill-treatment” towards women Ayesha Gulalai announced her exist from the party. The allegations made way for more rumors in the political circles, exposing the reality of things not being all rosy even in the opposition camp.

5. Verdict Against Tareen and in Favour of Imran Khan

In yet another landmark verdict the Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified PTI general secretary Jahangir Tareen from holding public office however, found chairman PTI, Imran Khan eligible for the same.

Despite a setback the verdict in many ways resulted in further strengthening the opposition camp months before the next general elections.

6. Faizabad Sit-ins

Sit-ins in Faizabad turned violent and ended only following the resignation of the former law minister Zahid Hamid who had been accused of introducing a controversial amendment in the declaration to the Finality of Prophethood of electoral candidates.

Different institutions with in the country received a lot of criticism for the mismanagement of the entire operation that was carried in a bid to end the protest.

7. Model Town Inquiry Report

The Model Town Inquiry Report was made public on court orders. Opposition parties following the development have been demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif and Minister for Law, Punjab Rana Sanaullah.
