Soon after the decision Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was elected as the next Prime Minister of Pakistan. Since Abbassi was preferred for the premier’s slot ahead of Nawaz Sharif’s own brother Shehbaz Sharif, rumors of a possible rift within the Sharif family began to circulate minutes after the nomination was announced.

Despite a setback the verdict in many ways resulted in further strengthening the opposition camp months before the next general elections.

Sit-ins in Faizabad turned violent and ended only following the resignation of the former law minister Zahid Hamid who had been accused of introducing a controversial amendment in the declaration to the Finality of Prophethood of electoral candidates.

Different institutions with in the country received a lot of criticism for the mismanagement of the entire operation that was carried in a bid to end the protest.
