The most common topic of discussion these days in Pakistan is the upcoming elections, 2018. Just two days away from the showdown, everyone has suddenly become an expert, giving their analysis of who and why a certain party will form the next government. These discussions often turn into heated arguments. Here are the 3 things you must take care of while participating in a political discussion.

1. Give Respect By All Means

Just because your family member, friend, colleague or anyone you know or don’t know generally doesn’t share the same political point of view as yours, doesn’t mean you go ahead and call them with all sorts of bad names, attack them with personal blows or even question the credibility of their education.

It is as simple as it gets, what’s right for you may not be right for others and you need to respect that. If you are confident enough that your path and thought process is correct then pass on your views with a polite and dignified approach.

Anger, aggression, negativity and hate will always result in resistance and retaliation and the outcome will be nothing but a regretful memory. Prove them wrong with facts & figures and documented references so they can’t argue about you being wrong.

2. Pakistan Should Be The Main Focus

All we want from the candidates or the party we support is to provide us with the basic necessities of life according to the constitution and that they must work towards the betterment of the country. A prosperous and developed Pakistan is in fact the dream of every citizen of the country. We all want the country out of the dark shadows, then why are we insisting and continuously making more enemies within?

As a nation we need to stand united so, the people who we choose to rule us actually get on the path of taking the appropriate actions to address the national issues. As a nation, we are so weak that the concept of standing up for something seems far-fetched.

3. Voting Is A Big Responsibility

The whole discussion comes down to who we choose to vote for. Let’s face it, we vote once in 5 years for the general elections then, why not cast the vote wisely? The candidate who you have decided to vote for, is he or she competent enough to take the matters and problems of your constituency in their hands and serve as a faithful servant? Is the candidate known to have addressed and resolved issues of the community in the past? People must have an entirely different approach when it comes to casting their vote. All I am stating is that should you choose a person who has the qualities of actually doing some good or should you pave way for a political party to sit on the throne and rule us for another tenure.
