Students in Sargodha paint the city with peace

Wall chalking, stains of spittle and time worn paints all take a toll on a city’s beauty. This is unfortunately true for many cities in Pakistan where decades of unchecked pollution, a dense population and lack of maintenance by the government have all contributed to their lost charm.

Wanting to revive the beauty of Sargodha – one of Punjab’s most important industrial centers – a group of students from Superior University, Lahore decided to paint their home town in hues of peace.

The initiative titled, “Peace Advocacy Graffiti Contest” was spearheaded by sisters, Nirmal and Noor Aman who wanted to revive their city’s old charm while at the same time giving out string messages of peace and tolerance.

The project managers employed street art as a tool to make the city look appealing once again and painted symbolic messages to promote the message of peace.

The young sisters were technically and financially supported by Pakistan Youth Change Advocates (PYCA), a civil society organization working to promote peace and development through youth participation.
