While driving a car or riding a motorbike, it is very important to obey certain rules and regulations governing traffic. They are in place for our own safety and convenience and most importantly, there  is a chance of serious repercussions in case of non-compliance. In Pakistan, there is no scoring of the driving license, there is no license cancellation law and the traffic rules aren’t that strongly imposed. You must follow these 6 traffic rules to avoid inconvenience!

1. Seat Belt and Helmet

It sounds very ironic that you think about driving a car or riding a bike without fastening seat belt or wearing helmet. But, believe us, this happens all the time. Even in Islamabad where traffic police are almost everywhere, you will see vehicle drivers roaming around with no seat belt and the bike riders without a helmet. Well, if you don’t want to follow rules then always be ready to pay fine. What we need to understand is that the seat belt and helmet rule is for our safety not inconvenience. Always have your seat belt or helmet on while driving.

2. Speed Limit

While driving you need to adjust your vehicle speed accordingly to the allowed limit or you will find yourself receiving a speeding ticket. Traffic police in Islamabad has been active for years in fining the drivers with speeding tickets. The maximum speed allowed in the city is 80 KMH which is on Kashmir Highway and that is where you will mostly find traffic police with a speed camera. Make sure that you keep an eye out for the sign boards which tell about the allowed speed limit. Speed limits are imposed to keep the roads safe as we all know that over speeding can kill.

3. Jumping Traffic Light

The third most important rule is to follow the traffic lights properly. This is the second biggest reason why drivers get into accidents. So, while driving make sure to follow the traffic lights for your and others’ safety. Remember, red means stop, green means go!

4. Noisy Exhaust Muffler

Having a loud car is probably in the starter pack of a new driver. Most of the new drivers are very keen to have an aftermarket exhaust muffler installed to make the car louder and rev it high wherever they want. This is generally very irritating and is a torture to the ears and also it is a major violation of the traffic laws. If you are in Islamabad then you need to hide from the traffic police if you have a loud muffler because chances are you will be fined for this.

Windows tint definitely add to the beauty of the vehicle but according to the traffic laws of Pakistan, any sort of window tinting is forbidden and when caught, they will remove the paper from the windows and you might even get a ticket. If you like window tints then the simplest solution is to have the rear window tinted and get shades for your side windows.

6. Fancy Registration Plates

There is a law for registration of number plates. You can’t have a fancy number plate and should only use the number plate that the government has issued to you. Almost a year ago, Islamabad traffic police did a major crack down on fancy number plate cars and over 2500 owners were fined for not having the correct number plates. They aren’t being strict about it these days but you never know. Leave your fancy number plate aside and put on the one issued by the authorities to avoid any inconvenience!
