From the many bright hues to the painted images to the – sometimes deep and sometimes hilarious – phrases written at the back of transport vehicles, Pakistani truck art is truly a cultural phenomenon unique only to our country.

So fascinating has Pakistani truck art become for foreigners that only last year London’s iconic red buses were painted with Pakistani truck art!

But colors and images are not the only thing that make Pakistani trucks so fascinating. The one-liners and phrases that are often painted at the back of the trucks are just as much part of the truck art culture as the imagery.

Recently, the US Consulate in Lahore released a video on its social media platforms where its staff members were seen reading out phrases written on the back of Pakistani trucks and then translating them in English.

While some of the American diplomats were spot-on with their interpretations and translations, others seemed clueless, making way for hilarious reactions!

For instance, when they were asked to translate, Pappu yaar tang na kar, one of the diplomats asked, “What does “Pappu” mean?”

Another diplomat loved the phrase Dil baraye-farokht, qeemat sirf aik ruppaya, and said that he would put that at the back of his car!

Mein bara ho kar truck banoon ga, had everyone in splits while Faasla rakhain warna pyar ho jayega, made a female diplomat go, “Wow!”
