Amazon GO

I remember my shopping experiences in cash and carry stores. Whenever there were holidays, special events or sales, there would be (and still are!) lines and endless bottle necks to turn the whole thing into a tedious experience. However, thankfully we’re in an era when technology is not just changing everyday life but also rapidly offering solutions to once unresolvable issues such as long ques!

Amazon Go is a new kind of store with no checkout required. It is the world’s most advanced shopping technology so you never have to wait in line. As the name suggests, it offers a walk out shopping experience like you’ve never known before: simply use the Amazon Go app to enter the store, take the products you want, and go! No lines, no checkout. The order gets charged to the user’s Amazon account afterwards.

Amazon Go is based on latest advancement in computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning. Just Walk Out technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart. When you’re done shopping, you can just leave the store. Shortly after, your Amazon account will be charged and a receipt will be sent to you.

The very first Amazon Go store is located at 2131 7th Ave, Seattle, WA, on the corner of 7th Avenue and Blanchard Street. It is currently open to Amazon employees as Beta program, and will open to the public in early 2017.

Now I understand that Amazon is yet to enter Pakistan. However, the very fact that the shopping experience is entering into the next phase, post the dot com revolution alone is worth writing about!

For the readers in Seattle, US: happy shopping! For the readers in other parts of the world: happy waiting – Amazon Go is on its way!
