Shaheen was out of action for a significant period during the year 2022. During the first part of the previous year he got injured while fielding during a Test match in Sri Lanka. Later during the T20 world cup final he again got himself injured while talking a catch. Owing to fitness issues he ended up missing the Asia Cup, the seven match T20 series and the Test series against England as well as the two matches and three ODIs that Pakistan played against New Zealand at home.
