Lollywood Has An Impressive Line-up Of Films Slated For 2019

2018 proved to be one of the most financially lucrative years for the Pakistan film industry since its revival some five years ago. There are still about 40 days left before the end of the year and Lollywood has already earned a whopping Rs. 200 crore in revenues from just a handful of releases.

Encouraged by the great box-office potential of Pakistani movies, more filmmakers are joining the movement to revive cinema in the country.

Unlike previous years, next year’s line-up of Lollywood releases is already out and one has to admit that it looks great!

Alif-Noon

The beloved television comedy from the 60’s will be revived for the big screen with Shehzad Roy and Faisal Qureshi stepping into the shoes of Kamal Ahmed Rizvi and Rafi Khawar (Nanha) respectively.

Alif-Noon is one  film that seems to have every Pakistani excited and the positive buzz around its announcement is likely to help once it is unveiled on the big screen.

Paray Hut Love

A Romantic comedy featuring Sheharyar Munawar and Maya Khan in lead roles, this Asim Raza directorial will also see a cameo from Mahira Khan. Going by Asim’s interviews, Paray Hut Love is a romantic comedy with a message.

The film completed its first schedule in Turkey in September 2018 and it is expected to see an Eid-ulAzha 2019 release.

Sherdil

Sherdil

After the roaring success of air force action-drama, Parwaaz Hai Junoon this year, another movie on similar lines is expected to release in 2019.

Sherdil boasts of an ensemble cast led by Mikaal Zulfiqar and Armeena Khan. The film is being directed by Parchi fame, Azfar Jafri and has Riki Butland (who has previously worked for Hollywood productions such as Furious 7  and Star Trek: Beyond) on-board as the  cinematographer.

Kaaf Kangana

Kaaf Kangana is an intense romance helmed by senior director and writer, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar. Ayesha Omer leads the star cast essaying the role of Gulnaz, a feisty, upper-middle class girl. Sami Khan and newcomer, Eshal Fayyaz will also appear in pivotal roles.

Maula Jatt 2

The much delayed remake of the cult classic, Maula Jatt has been in and out of news for a while. Directed by Bilal Lashari (Waar), Maula Jatt 2 will feature an ensemble cast of Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malick.

As per reports, the film is likely to see its big premier towards the beginning of 2019.

3 Bahadur: Rise of the Warriors

The much loved animated film 3 Bahadur is slated to return with its third installment in the coming year. The second sequel in the series is named, 3 Bahadur: Rise of the Warriors. The titular characters will be voiced by such big names as Mehwish Hayat, Fahad Mustafa, and Behroze Sabswari.

Meera’s comeback vehicle, Baji has been in the news ever since it was announced. Senior filmmaker, Saqib Malik’s first cinematic directorial, Baji will also feature Osama Khalid Butt, Mohsin Abbas and veteran actress, Nisho in pivotal roles.

Sorry: A Love Story has created a lot of interest owing to its powerful star cast that includes, Faysal Quraishi, Aamina Sheikh, Zahid Ahmed and Sonya Hussyn. Very little is known about the film so far except that it will be an engaging romance exploring the relationships of its layered characters.
