An alleged case of blasphemy has wreaked havoc in Ghotki district of Sindh.

The case garnered attention when an FIR was submitted by the father of a student of Sindh Public School stating that the head of the school had committed blasphemy.

Protests

People came out in large numbers to protest against the alleged incident of blasphemy in Ghotkhi. Videos of protestors vandalizing a Hindu temple and damaging the school where the alleged incident took place surfaced on social media.

Who is behind the alleged Ghotkhi blasphemy case?

It is said that Pir Abdul Haq, famously known as Mian Mitho of PTI is behind this case. He was previously with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). In 2013, he was not given an election ticket after it came to light that he was behind forced conversion of Hindu girls to Islam.

Action

It is reported that rangers and police are deployed to control the situation.

Additional IGP Dr. Jamil Ahmed said that the principal was moved to a safe location and a fair investigation would take place.

“We are trying to deal with a serious situation in a cool, calculated, impartial and professional manner. Moderate and educated sections of society must fully support our earnest efforts to do justice and maintain peace in Ghotki.”

Pakistanis took to Twitter to condemn the mob violence over the alleged Ghotki blasphemy case and demanded that culprits be punished harshly.

A significant number of Pakistani Muslims distanced themselves from the actions of the mob and emphasized that Islam, under no circumstances, condoned violence against minorities.

Pakistanis not only condemned but also apologized to the Hindu community for the mob’s unacceptable behaviour.

It is good to see the overwhelming support for the rights of non-Muslims and a loud condemnation of what the mob did in Ghotki by Pakistanis. We now hope that justice will truly be served and those behind the riots in Ghotki will be brought to book.
