Hamza Anwer: Pakistan’s Youngest National Swimming Champion

Muhammad Hamza Anwer, an 18-year-old swimmer is Pakistan’s youngest national swimming champion of Pakistan in 400m and 100m Breaststroke events from Karachi.

Hamza started swimming at quite an early age after watching his elder brother Aniq Anwer who is also his inspiration.

Aniq Anwer, was also a swimmer who made Pakistan proud on different occasions. He was a former Pakistan National Swimming Champion with the world rank of 44, the highest rank ever achieved by a Pakistani swimmer in the history of country’s swimming.

Hamza launched his career in competitive swimming at the age of 10 by competing in Sindh Open Swimming Championship 2010 where he became the best swimmer in his age-group category. From that point on-wards, there was nothing stopping him and he continued to win laurels in this competitive sport.

Hamza became the National Junior Swimming Champion of Pakistan in 2014 at the age of 14 and retained his title for two consecutive years till 2016.

The young swimming champion participated in the National Senior Swimming Championship of Pakistan in 2018 for the first time.

There he became the Youngest National Swimming Champion of Pakistan after winning 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. He also helped his team, WAPDA grab winning trophy for the first time since 1960.

And swimming is not the only sport Muhammad Hamza is interested in. Hamza, along with his father have also been passionate about badminton.

He learned to play badminton during the off days of his swimming training. He also started playing badminton in different clubs of Karachi and took part in competitions in his college.

Now he plays badminton for his university and he is currently the Inter-University Badminton Champion of Sindh.

He wants to pursue swimming as a full-time career and he dreams of becoming an Olympic level swimming champion for Pakistan.
