Prime Minister Imran Khan is leaving for China today to discuss China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other regional issues with Pakistan’s long time friend.

Main focus

PM’s main focus would be the revival of CPEC projects to boost Pakistan’s ailing economy.

Some CPEC projects were stopped due to financial crunch facing the country. Further, lack of cooperation by bureaucracy due to fear of the National Accountability Bureau was also one of the reasons.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed, Minister for Planning Khusro Bakhtiar and Finance Adviser Hafeez Sheikh will be accompanying Pakistan’s premier for this three day visit.

Pakistani delegation will discuss the Karachi-Peshawar ML-1 railway track and the Kashmir issue with Chinese officials.

Also, the implementation of Phase-II of China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement which is to enhance bilateral business and trade will be discussed.

What Pakistanis should expect on Imran Khan’s visit to China?

Pakistanis should expect emphasis on trade deals and toning down of ongoing regional tensions.

Further, it is expected that China would lend its full support to Pakistan as China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, “No actions that would unilaterally change the status quo should be taken”.

Prime Minister Imran Khan will address China-Pakistan Business Forum in Beijing on the subject of “Economic and Trade Exchange and Cooperation” to promote trade between the neighboring countries.
