Despite a pretty poor performance during the last home series against South Africa, both Abid Ali and Imran Butt are likely to retain their place for the first Test. This because apparently, the think-tank wants to give a proper opportunity to the opening combination. Former skipper, Azhar Ali meanwhile is likely to bat at his regular number three position.

Hasan Ali and Shaheen Afridi are expected to lead Pakistan’s fast bowling department as usual. Spinner Nauman Ali on the other hand will have a leading role to play because neither Yasir Shah nor Zahid Mahmood are part of the touring party. Given the state of wickets in Zimbabwe, Pakistan should ideally play another spinner. Misbah-ul-Haq and company then might allow off-spinner Sajid Khan a debut game i.e. if they don’t opt to play it safe by selecting another left-arm spinner i.e. Mohd. Nawaz.
