The production units of both Marvel and D.C Comics have been in a bit of an over-drive in the last 5 years. From individual installments of superhero films such as Thor, Superman, Batman, Deadpool, Iron Man and Captain America to cross-overs such as Avengers, Justice League, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and X-Men, superhero films have steadily taken over the box office.

This wave is only getting bigger and stronger with each year and 2017 alone will see the release of 6 superhero films, i.e. at least 1 film every 2 months!

For fans of this particular genre, we bring the list of all the releases this year with all the details that you need to know! These 6 superhero films however, only capture those being released by Marvel Comics, Fox Studios and D.C Comics and do not include such films as Transformers: The Last Knight, The Lego Batman Movie and Captain Underpants!

1. Logan

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, this much anticipated film released to rave reviews and a brilliant box office on March 3rd. Reprising the iconic role perhaps for the last time, Huge Jackman returned to the big screen as Wolverine. Sir Patrick Stewart once again essayed the role of Charles Xavier/Professor X while Boyd Holbrook was seen as the leading antagonist, Donald Pierce.

2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

After tasting massive success with the first installment, Chris Pratt and his team will be back with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on 5th May 2017. Thanos is unlikely to return for the sequel. Kurt Russell and Pom Klementieff will be the new entrants, playing Ego and Mantis respectively.

3. Wonder Woman

Shortly after the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Wonder Woman will make her first solo big screen appearance on June 2. The trailer of this film was released to much fanfare last year and ever since, fans have been impatiently awaiting its release. Gal Gadot will play the protagonist, Wonder Woman while Chris Pine and Robin Wright will also play key roles.

4. Spider-man: Homecoming

This re-boot of the Spider-man series is not a stand alone film. Rather, it is tied into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), with Iron Man slated to make an interesting appearance. Tom Holland will play Spider-man while other cast members will include, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Robert Downey Jr., and Jon Favreau among others.

5. Thor: Ragnarok

After a lapse of 4 years, Thor will return with a solo film with Chris Hemsworth once again reprising his role as the Greek god. The film will follow the events of the last Avengers’ movie (i.e. Avengers: Age of Ultron) with Thor held captive on Sakaar planet without his hammer. The film will have a winter release and will hit the theaters on November 3 this year.

6. Justice League

The final superhero release of 2017 will be the much anticipated, Justice League. The movie will pick a few months after the events of Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice when Batman and Wonder Woman enlist the help of other meta-humans to defeat the villainous duo of Steppenwolf and the Parademons. Among (MANY OTHERS), the ensemble cast will consist of Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as Flash and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.
