After having secured a 1-nil lead at Lord’s, Pakistan play England next in the final Test of the series in Headingley, Leeds.

Now, with Babar Azam injured, Pakistan have no other choice but to allow a debut to either Usman Salahuddin, Fakhar Zaman or Saad Ali. Out of these three youngsters, it is perhaps Usman who deserves an opportunity in the Headingley Test ahead of the other two.

Usman Salahuddin has been with the Test squad and in the waiting for over a year now. It makes little sense for him to become another Fawad Alam.

By any standards it is his turn and he deserves a proper chance ahead of the other two batsmen sitting on the bench.

Saad Ali couldn’t impress during the Leicestershire warm-up where as Usman showed form and scored 69, remaining not out.

Since, he seems to be the middle order batman in better form, he certainly deserves to be in the playing eleven when Pakistan play England again on Friday.

Fakhar Zaman showed terrific form during the Leicestershire warm up. That said, it would simply be unfair on both youngsters if the think tank decides to ask one of its openers to make his debut on a number that really isn’t his and ahead of a middle order batsman who apparently is in good nick.

In a nutshell, allowing Usman a debut during the final Test of the two match rubber is quite simply the logical thing to do.
