All six Pakistan Super League (PSL) teams retained up to ten players and released the remaining members of the squad who had participated in the previous edition. And while a number of adjustments have been made, we decided to focus on the  5 big names of Pakistan cricket who were either released or traded by franchises ahead of the PSL 2019 player draft.

Shahid Afridi

Shahid Afridi has had fitness issues during the last two seasons owing to which he was unable to participate in the last leg of both editions. His age, fitness and recent form then, are likely to be the reasons because of which Karachi Kings have decided to let go of him for PSL 2019.

Misbah-ul-Haq

After having led the Islamabad United to two title victories, Misbah has decided to call it a day. His decision of course, left the franchise owners with little choice but to let go of him in the player draft. Still, the former Pakistan captain is likely to be a key figure in the United’s dugout.

Mohammad Hafeez

Mohammad Hafeez decided not to represent Peshawar Zalmi in the upcoming edition for reasons that have not been elaborated publicly. Hence, he was released by the franchise. Going by his current form he is likely to be a hot sell during the draft.

Umar Akmal

Umar Akmal had fallen in trouble with the Lahore Qalandars’ support staff during the previous season. Therefore, Qalandars’ decision of trading him with Quetta Gladiators does not come down as a surprise at all. Nevertheless, Gladiators have received quite a bit of criticism from the fans for selecting Akmal who clearly is not popular with the fans anymore.

Sohail Tanvir
