Shahid Afridi is once again in the limelight but this time it has nothing to do with sports and everything to do with humanity! The former cricketer landed in hot water when a video went viral in which Afridi can be seen addressing an audience in London on the issue of Kashmir. Here’s what the sports star had to say about the bloody dispute that has resulted in seven decades worth of violence and pain.

Indian media were quick to misinterpret the video by taking Afridi’s words out of context in order to promulgate an anti-Pakistan narrative. Following this, Afridi took to Twitter to explain how his statement has been widely misconstrued by Delhi and reiterated his love and loyalty for his country.
My comments are being misconstrued by Indian media! I'm passionate about my country and greatly value the struggles of Kashmiris. Humanity must prevail and they should get their rights.

My clip is incomplete & out of context as what I said before that is missing.Kashmir is unresolved dispute & under brutal Indian occupation. It must be resolved as per UN resolution. Myself along with every Pakistani support Kashmiri freedom struggle. Kashmir belongs to Pakistan.

Many Pakistanis, since then, have come out in support of Shahid Afridi and bashed the Indian media for making the whole episode necessarily controversial.
This 33 second clip dominates the entire cricket career of #ShahidAfridi. Sanity prevails. #Respect. https://t.co/aP27LNLeqw

Look at indian Media. How thy r treating #ShahidAfridi's statement.
If u watch the complete interview, Afridi didn't spoke against Pakistan or in favor of India, he took side of Kashmiris! He asked India to leave Ksahmir, let Kashmiris LIVE! LET THEM DECIDE WHERE THEY WANNA GO!!

Indian media is being retarted again and taking @SAfridiOfficial's comments out of context.
What's wrong in saying, let the Kashmiris live freely and decide their fate? #Kashmir #TruePakistani #ShahidAfridi https://t.co/lvOsa0mhRC

To save lives in Kashmir, to save humanity, both the countries should withdraw their claims over Kashmir' what's wrong in saying that?#ShahidAfridi

According to an Indian think tank named Institute for Conflict Management, 2017 alone saw the unjust killing of more than 350 Kashmiris.
In the last 27 years, more than 40,000 innocent lives have been taken by the Indian forces, occupying the land against the will of the natives.
Raping Kashmiri women of all ages has been used as a weapon of war by Indian soldiers for ages. Life comes to a halt every now and then when curfews are imposed by the nationalist government. Abductions and extra-judicial killings of the young sons of the Kashmiri soil is now more a part of the disputed territory’s history than the beauty for which it was once revered globally.
Given such horrifying living conditions and violations of human rights there’s nothing that Afridi said that can be denied by any Pakistani regardless of what the media says. Afridi talked about the survivor’s guilt and the intense grief that we have all felt at the sight of bullet pellet bodies and upon reading and hearing the chilling narrations of rape survivors. No parents deserve the agony of burying their own children and no children deserve to be deprived of their parents’ unconditional love and care simply because of an endless dispute over territorial control.
