PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) responded yesterday after BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) took a unilateral decision with regard to not touring Pakistan for #AsiaCup2023. The board has expressed disappointment after Jay Shah, Secretary BCCI and the president of the Asian Cricket Council had revealed BCCI’s decision a day earlier.

PCB while expressing disappointment said, “The PCB has noted with surprise and disappointment of yesterday’s comments made by the ACC President Mr. Jay Shah with regards to shifting of next year’s Asia Cup to a neutral venue. The comments were made without any discussion or consultation with the Board of the Asian Cricket Council or the Pakistan Cricket Board (event host) and without any thoughts towards their long-term consequences and implications.”

The Ramiz Raja-led cricket board while issuing a warning further said, “Pakistan was awarded the Asia Cup with an overwhelming support and response from the ACC Board Members. The overall impact of such statements have the potential to split the Asian and international cricketing communities, and can impact Pakistan’s visit to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and future ICC Events in India in the 2024-2031 cycle.”

It is worth mentioning here that PCB is likely to opt out of the Asian Cricket Council if the tournament doesn’t take place in Pakistan next year. Given such a scenario, the council might not be able to function for too long as it generates a majority of its funds via the #PakvsInd matches.
