Selection committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced an 18 member training camp for Asia Cup, 2018. Players picked for the training camp include Sarfaraz Ahmed (captain), Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Mohd. Amir, Hasan Ali, Usman Khan Shinwari, Junaid Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Imad Wasim, Mohd. Hafeez, Mohd. Nawaz, Shan Masood and Haris Sohail.
So, here is a look at 3 talking points from Pakistan’s Asia Cup, 2018 training camp squad.
1. End of the Road for Azhar Ali?
Former One day International (ODI) captain Azhar Ali has been left out of the squad. Does this in a way signal an end of the road scenario as far as Azhar’s ODI career is concerned? Well, since the next world cup is to be played in England you never know!
Pakistani selectors still might take a u-turn and allow him yet another ODI comeback when they feel the need for experience up the order to deal with swing and seam.
2. Shan Masood and ODI Player?
Shan Masood has not really been prolific in his stop-start Test career so far. He has neither scored runs regularly nor has been able to prove that he has got a wide range of scoring shots. Still, for reasons that lack justification he has been selected for an ODI training camp!
Pakistani selectors then, really need to explain why the 28-year-old has been preferred over other deserving candidates such as Sahibzada Farhan.
3. Nawaz and Shan Likely to be Left Out?
It seems Nawaz will make way for Imad Wasim and Shan Masood will be the other left out player as the remaining 16 will fly to UAE for the much awaited tournament.
