Veteran lyricist was in for a major surprise when he found his name on the posters of the upcoming Narendra Modi biopic.

Why?

Because he had not written any lyrics for the film!

The poet took to Twitter to share his displeasure on having his name included on the poster of a film that he had not worked on.

The makers of the Narendra Modi biopic had used an old song,
Ishwar Allah that he had written for Deepa Mehta’s 1999 film, 1947: Earth. The song in question had been rehashed and its lyrics changed for inclusion in Narendra Modi.

After registering his protest on Twitter, Javed Akhtar also spoke with the press at the sidelines of an event that he was attending. “If they wanted to honour me, why did they also not include A.R Rehman’s name (who was the song’s original composer)?” questioned an annoyed Akhtar.

This is the latest in a series of criticisms that the Narendra Modi biopic has attracted in recent weeks.

Earlier, the Congress-led opposition had labelled the upcoming movie as an act of desperation by the Indian Prime Minister, whom they called (among other things), “a flop person” and someone who was “zero.”

The film’s trailer has also received flak for dramatizing and exaggerating Modi’s life to create an onscreen persona that is not a representation of reality.

Owing to stiff resistance from the opposition parties, the film’s release has been delayed. While it was earlier suppose to release on 5 April, it will now hit the screens on April 11.

Incidentally, India will also go to polls on the same date as the release of the Narendra Modi biopic.
