Rumors in main stream media suggest that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is seriously considering to axe Misbah-ul-Haq as Pakistan’s chief selector and hence, we analyze why it seems that Shoaib Akhtar is being considered for the role.
So, What Do The Media Reports Say?
Press Trust of India (PTI) has reported that PCB is looking forward to reduce Misbah’s burden who is also serving as Pakistan’s head coach.
“The PCB now feels that it is best if the burden was reduced on Misbah and allow him to focus on his job as head coach as there are a number of important ICC events coming up in the next three years,” a source was quoted as saying by PTI.
The source was further quoted as saying, “Wasim Khan the PCB CEO was in England recently and has also observed from close quarters how Misbah is handling both responsibilities. Wasim also spoke to Misbah in England and having a new chief selector is now an option for the board.
Why It Is Not A Surprise?
Pakistan’s dismal show during the English tour has understandably raised quite a few eyebrows. Misbah’s team selection and his decision of having Azhar Ali as the Test skipper too has been a point of debate since long. Thus, given the poor string of recent performances by the men in green it is understood that pressure is mounting on Misbah who might as well lose his place as Pakistan’s head coach if the trend doesn’t reverse soon.
So, Will PCB Replace Misbah-ul-Haq With Shoaib Akhtar?
The comments that have come from the concerned source suggest that it might as well be Pakistan’s former pacer i.e. Shoaib Akhtar. So, if actually happens then this way PCB will be able to keep in check Misbah’s powers and of course his burden on one hand and keep Shoaib away from criticizing them on media on the other.
