Indian Prime Minister Narendar Modi’s visit to US has been hailed as successful by Indian commentators as Trump and Modi displayed a strong bond of friendship while attending the event, “Howdy, Modi” in Houston.

PM Narendra Modi is currently on a seven-day visit in US from September 21 to 27.

How Modi averted the discussion on Kashmir

On September 22, PM Modi attended the “Howdy, Modi” event and addressed a gathering of close to 50,000 people.

Modi introduced Trump as “my friend, a friend of India, a great American president.”

Many people have said that this display of bond has helped Modi avert the debate around the India’s grave human rights violation in Kashmir.

Trade deals

The two countries are looking forward to negotiate a trade deal. It is speculated that the deal would lower some tariffs on U.S. products in India and would give preferential treatment to some Indian exports.

Trump also said that the U.S. and India would conduct joint military exercises and even team up for space exploration events.

Trump gearing for re-elections

Trump is preparing for 2020 elections, and by displaying courteous attitude towards Indian President, Trump is hoping for the Indian-Americans to lean toward the Republicans.

In the last elections, 84 per cent of Indian-Americans voted for Hillary Clinton and Trump is definitely looking to change that.

So, the leaders of both the countries have used this meeting as an opportunity to further their own political agendas.
