Confusion persists as authorities are yet to finalize a host for Asia Cup 2022. Earlier, Sri Lanka was named as the host nation however, multiple media outlets reported that owing to economic and socio-political trouble Sri Lanka cricket had decided not to organize the prestigious tournament in their country.

Despite reports that UAE was all set to replace Sri Lanka after they had decided against hosting the event Sri Lankan media reported that the local government had given the green signal to its cricket board to organize the the tournament. In connection with the aforesaid, Daily news reported that a prominent government official discussed the matter with the SLC officials and allowed them to host Asia Cup 2022 in Sri Lanka.

The media house also added that, “The event is scheduled to be held from August 24 to September 10 and ten teams are scheduled to compete in this tournament and most probably all the matches will be played at the R.Premadasa International cricket stadium and government has given assurance to make this event a success.”

President BCCI, Saurav Ganguly however was earlier reported as saying, “Asia Cup will be in UAE, as it is the only place where there won’t be rains.”

A final decision nevertheless is expected on July 28 in Dubai during a meeting between Sri Lanka Cricket and Asian Cricket Council. The tournament involves Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan alongside United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuwait who will compete for a final spot in the qualifiers.
