General Pervez Musharraf, former military dictator, has been sentenced and the contentious detailed verdict has all the Pakistanis severely divided.

Pakistani celebrities are also voicing their opinions about the verdict and let’s have a look at what do they have to say!

Hamza Ali Abbasi, who never shies from voicing political opinions, came forward to caution people and said they can express their anger but should not accuse judges being anti-army.

But as soon as the detailed verdict came to light, he was completely “shocked” by the words and said that “I take my words back about not accusing judges of being anti-army”.

He brought a valid point to light that “when nation demanded public hanging of rapists” it was denied claiming it was against the law, so how can hanging Musharraf’s dead body publicly is justified now?

Mehwish Hayat, quoted an Irish Soldier to share her stance, “The treason of which I stand convicted loses all its guilt, has been sanctified as a duty, and will be ennobled as a sacrifice.”

Mahira Khan stood by the verdict obliquely tweeting that “…Allah ki laathi beawaaz hai…”

Mawra Hocane expressed her support for Musharraf by hinting at Nawaz Sharif’s case. She said “We freed those who deserved to be punished and attempting to punish those who fought wars for us.”

Shaan Shahid, voiced solidarity with Musharraf and called it a sad day dubbing him a “patriot.”

Veteran actor Faisal Rehman, was among those celebrities who were in favour of the Musharraf verdict and he minced no words in making his stance crystal clear.

Annie Khalid felt “disgusted” by the judgement. She added, “Its beyond unethical in fact it’s barbaric and sickening!”

Muneeb Butt kept his opinion short yet blunt.

Shaista Lodhi talked about the language used in the verdict to be “unsettling” and wished that a “better tone was adopted.”
