Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) annual awards’ night was organized in Karachi yesterday. While there’s a lot that can be written about what went down at the event, what specifically caught my attention was how the think tank honored not only its seasoned players but also its rising stars.

So, here is a look at how 3 young Pakistani cricketers were able to win big during the event.

Not even a year and half since he made his debut; Mohammad Abbas managed to outshine senior players like Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Wahab Riaz, M. Amir and skipper Sarfraz Ahmed to claim the award for the “Test Cricketer of the Year.”

The award hence, comes as a testament of the fact that not only has the 28 year old pacer come of age in no time but that he is also the best Test bowler that Pakistan has for now.

Some commentators initially were of the view that Babar Azam’s playing style is better suited to Test and One Day Internationals (ODIs). Nevertheless, his consistency at the T20 level of late has been second to none. Therefore, it is no surprise that the stylish middle order batsman was able to win the award for the “T20 Cricketer of the Year.”

The award then leaves no doubt that Babar is a force to reckon with in the game’s shortest version and hopefully, he will be able to keep up the good work during the next 12 months as well.

Hasan Ali has come of age and has most definitely become the new star fast bowler from Pakistan during the last 12 months or so.

He was given the “Best ODI Cricketer of the Year” award by the same PCB, which, in a mind-boggling decision named him in the “B category” of the central contract.

Hasan’s moment of recognition then should also serve as a moment of realization for the officials sitting at the PCB headquarters who without a shadow of doubt need to re-visit their decision.
