By beating Afghanistan in two out of three encounters, Pakistan have firmly established themselves as the second-best side heading into the Asia Cup, behind India. Pakistan’s unpredictable nature is both their greatest strength and their biggest weakness — capable of toppling giants one day and collapsing the next. The Asia Cup will test whether this side can handle the pressure of expectations.

Apart from Shaheen Afridi, none of Pakistan’s pacers were able to consistently deliver throughout the tri-series. Haris Rauf and company struggled to maintain control at the death, while the backup options lacked bite. This inconsistency in the closing overs remains a worrying sign. With modern limited-overs cricket heavily decided in the final five overs, Pakistan will need to find quick fixes, whether through improved execution or tactical changes, if they are to contend seriously for the title.

The tri-series, along with previous ICC events in the UAE, reinforced one trend: batting first remains a significant advantage. Teams setting a total often enjoyed more success, thanks to slow pitches. As a result, the toss will become a crucial factor in the Asia Cup, shaping strategies and possibly deciding outcomes in the knockout stages.
