Pakistani spinners have looked pretty ordinary during the last two ODI series that the green shirts have played. On the other hand, spin bowlers are likely to play a major role in the Indian conditions where the ICC world cup is scheduled to begin next month. Hence, there is definitely a need to bring in Abrar Ahmed ahead of Usama Mir who has already had a terrific start to his international career at the Test level.

Both spin bowling all-rounders, Shadab and Nawaz have let themselves down with ordinary performances during the last few months. Therefore, the time seems right to bring back the experienced Imad Wasim who is in good form. It is also worth mentioning here that Naseem Shah is likely to miss the entire world cup owing to an injury. Hence, the presence of Imad will also increase Babar’s options with the new ball.

Fakhar Zaman is seriously out of form and so, it is obvious that there is no way Pakistan can afford to have him in the squad. In the given circumstances then Pakistan must allow the in-form Shan Masood another opportunity at the ODI level. He is likely to be an asset during the campaign as he is also capable of adjusting in the upper as well as in the middle-order.
