On Thursday, wife of Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Zarina Montessarat Carrera Khoso recorded her statement before the Supreme Court bench via video link in an assets concealment and alleged misconduct case against her husband.
The Presidential Reference had alleged that Justice Qazi Faez Isa had purchased three properties in London on lease in the name of his wife and children between 2011 and 2015, but had not disclosed them in his tax returns.
Justice Qazi Faez Isa had appeared before the Supreme Court of Pakistan a day before and conveyed his wife’s message to the bench. Justice Isa said that that the FBR (Federal Board of Revenue) had humiliated his wife and now she doesn’t want to talk to them. He requested the judges to grant permission to his wife to appear before the apex court and reveal sources via video call.
After that a malicious campaign was launched on Twitter using the hashtag ججکیبیوی#.
The campaign implied that a judge had built his offshore assets in the name of her spouse because she couldn’t be held accountable.

And then Justice Isa’s wife appeared before the court voluntarily to clear her name in the case.
A ten member larger SC bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the case regarding the proceedings of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) against Justice Qazi Faez Isa.
Zarina Montessarat Carrera Khoso, on Thursday presented the evidence of her properties and the money trail against them before the court via a video call. The offshore properties’ money trail is a key to the presidential reference filed against her husband.
Providing the evidence and the details of her properties Zarina Montserrat Khoso Carrera said:
All these accounts are in my name and not my husband’s name and if you add up the value of the properties which was being claimed (to be in) millions is equivalent to a one-kanal house either in Karachi or Islamabad.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial after the recording of her statement said that the court was satisfied by the evidence provided by decision will be made but the tax authorities. He said:
I must tell you one thing, we, as judges, are answerable for our actions in private and public life; therefore, we are much more accountable than other people, as we are holding other people accountable. This not the trial of your husband and yours as well, but the trial of our institution.
Following her appearance in the court and her winning testimony, Zarina has quickly become a social media favourite!
Of course, the trolls, who only until a few days ago had been having a ball maligning the judge’s wife are now ducking for cover after becoming the trolled themselves!
