There is far too much of confusion and uncertainty and far too many rumours as of now. You want all your cricketers including the captain and the support staff to have enough time to prepare before the next series and go in with a definitive mind-set. A last minute announcement will only add to confusion. Hence, PCB should not allow that to happen.

So, we already have names of Shan Masood, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Imad Wasim, Babar Azam, Haris Sohail and Shadab Khan circulating in media as possible replacements of Sarfraz Ahmed. It is then only obvious that some of them might have already started dreaming of leading Pakistan. Thus, when a final decision is taken, some of them will most definitely feel the disappointment. PCB then needs to clear the air on asap basis. This will help in protecting the dressing room environment that is bound to go volatile if confusion persists for a longer period of time.

PCB is likely to split captaincy. It is only natural that the captains then will require time to devise a strategy with the support staff as well as to lobby with other senior players in order to garner support. Thus, PCB should not delay the decision on captaincy and defuse the unnecessary confusion on asap basis.

  1. Muhammad Rizwan should be appointed as captain of test and one day team. As he was appointed as captain of A team and had performed well both as a captain and as a player. He is a reliable batsman and efficient wicket keeper

  2. Azhar Ali is the most logical choice because of his experience and he would command respect of his teammates because of his sound batting. Shah Masood’s only merit is that he can speak English so Azhar also. Shan’s batting performance at Test level does not support his chance. An experienced and soft/spoken Azhar should be the captain.
