Prime Minister Imran Khan launched Ehsaas-Saylani Langar Scheme on Monday to combat hunger.

It is a scheme under PM’s Ehsaas Programme that aims to alleviate poverty.

Ehsaas Programme’s head Dr. Sania Nishtar said that in the first phase, 112 soup kitchens would be opened. They would provide food to 600 people daily.

Prime Minister Imran had ordered to take special care of the hygiene and food to be provided in ample proportions “with respect.”

Saylani Trust is the largest welfare organization of Pakistan. Its founder, Maulana Bashir Farooq , was all praise for this initiative.

This initiative by the country’s premier was lauded by many Pakistanis…

…but surprisingly at the same time, it had to face severe backlash from some quarters as well

A YouTuber, Khurram Mehmood, lashed at Imran Khan for starting this scheme saying that a great leader like him should not be doing this. “Khan was elected to do bigger things than distributing food.”

Some people on social media said that Imran Khan was criticized for his double standards as he promised to give jobs but ended up opening soup kitchens.

But the majority of Pakistanis were just appalled at how such a scheme of combating hunger could be criticized.
