Normal life in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK) has come to a stand-still as the entire state has been put under lock-down. Phone and internet services have been suspended while the movement of general public has been completely prohibited. Two key Kashmiri politicians, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are also under house arrest.
This latest crackdown by the Indian state marks the beginning of yet another volatile chapter in the history of the disputed territory of Kashmir.

However, unlike in the past, this time not only Pakistanis but also Indians are standing up against atrocities in Kashmir.
Tamanna Pankaj, who is an Indian lawyer is urging the citizens to protest and is asking the government to end the climate of “silence” and “fear” in Kashmir.
Friends, this is Kashmir for you. Imagine you are in that situation. Rise in Rage. Protest.

Shashi Tharoor, senior Indian politician, tweeted against the house arrest of the Kashmiri leaders and also assured Omar Abdullah that he was not alone.
What is going on in J&K? Why would leaders be arrested overnight while having done no wrong? If Kashmiris are our citizens &their leaders our partners, surely the mainstream ones must be kept on board while we act against terrorists & separatists? If we alienate them, who’s left?
— Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) August 4, 2019
You are not alone @OmarAbdullah. Every Indian democrat will stand with the decent mainstream leaders in Kashmir as you face up to whatever the government has in store for our country. Parliament is still in session & our voices will not be stilled. @INCIndia https://t.co/QqGa4EgrP3

This nightmare is not likely to end anytime soon as recently the civil rights of the Kashmiri citizens were suspended. Article 370, 35A of the Indian Constitution, which granted a special status to the disputed territory was revoked on Monday.
Arfa Khanum Sherwani, an Indian journalist tweeted that by suspending Article 370, the BJP government has proven that it was always about the land and the government did not actually care about the citizens.
It was always about Kashmir, never about Kashmiris. Always about the land, never about the people.

Today the way they suspended civil rights of Kashmiris, they are proving this right.
In a series of tweets in solidarity with Kashmiris, actor Nagma Morarji stressed that Kahmiris are not alone and shamed BJP government for its actions.
Jammu & Kashmir is an integral part of India, the people of Kashmir are our brothers and sisters. No GOVT has ever treated them like this. The elected representatives,Pro Indian leaders. 2 Ex CM’s are under house arrest. This is EMERGENCY. Shame on the BJP Govt. #StandwithKashmir

Dibyesh Anand is of the opinion that India is taking undemocratic actions in Kashmir.
What #India is doing in #Kashmir is anti-democratic, dehumanising and pure colonialism. #StandwithKashmir pic.twitter.com/NkextqgFMV

Rohini Mohan, an independent Indian journalist tweeted that the lock down of Kashmir was equivalent to bullying.
This is done by shutting down an entire state of #JammuAndKashmir and putting anyone who will have to be consulted under house arrest. By filling the state with military. By announcing it after the President has already signed it.
— Rohini Mohan (@rohini_mohan) August 5, 2019
This is not decisiveness, this is bullying.
Ashok Swain tweeted that Modi has placed Kashmiris in darkness by stripping them of their due rights.
Article 370 is being scrapped. Modi-Shah pushes the country to fear, uncertainty and darkness. #KashmirBleeds
— Ashok Swain (@ashoswai) August 5, 2019
If Indians are talking against the un-democratic actions of their government in Kashmir, leaving their loyalties aside, then it is a sign of the fact that the crises in Kashmir is not political but a humanitarian in nature. The situation thus, demands that the international community, more specifically the United Nations must intervene immediately.
