The lockdown situation in Pakistan may be relaxed now but it has affected Ramzan and it will most definitely affect Eid-ul-Fitr. While Eid is all about celebrations and large get-togethers, I believe we will have a rather quiet Eid-ul-Fitr this year.

This is how I think COVID-19 will affect Eid-ul-Fitr this year!

1. Absence of Enthusiasm

This could be entirely just me, but I see no enthusiasm in people. Despite the fact that markets are flooding with shoppers, there is simply no, “O’ I can’t wait for EID,” attitude in people.

2. Increase in Charity

While the enthusiasm for Eid might decrease but we are a very charitable nation. People have extended their maximum support to the deserving families who have been unable to make a living due to COVID-19 and this will need to give will likely see a surge on Eid.

3. Chand Raat

Eid-ul-Fitr can’t be complete without shopping for clothes, footwear, bangles, mehndi and many other related things. Well, many have taken the markets by storm but I still think that the traditional chand raat excitement will be absent this Eid.

4. Lack of Business

Eid-ul-Fitr is probably the most profitable time of the year in Pakistan. Businesses such as garments, footwear, sweet shops, beauty salons, etc. all make a lot of money around this time.

It’s difficult to say if such outlets will be able to do as good this year.

5. Eid Prayer

People are still going to mosques for prayers as arrangements have been made at the mosques to ensure social distancing. Will the same arrangement be possible for Eid prayer as well considering a large number of people? I guess we’ll be skipping Eid prayer this year.

6. Eid Parties

Almost every one of us skipped iftar parties in 2020 and it seems the same will be happening on Eid too.
