A famous Indian jewellery brand, Tanishq recently produced an advertisement featuring an interfaith couple for promoting Hindu-Muslim unity in the country.

As one would’ve expected, the Tanishq ad didn’t sit well with the extremist Hindu community and received a lot of flak.

The advertisement which was part of the Ekatvam campaign showed a baby shower organised for the Hindu bride by her Muslim in-laws.

The criticism on the social media was so fierce that Tanishq was forced to withdraw the advertisement. As per reports, a mob reportedly attacked the jewellery store in Gujrat for promoting Hindu-Muslim harmony and were also coerced to put up an apology on the store. Later, thestore management disproved any news of the attack.

Conservative social media users in India also led a campaign to boycott the brand.

However, some Bollywood celebrities praised the effort by Tanishq and condemned the attack while calling the ad “beautiful”.

And obviously, Kangana Ranaut went to another level and and believed that it glorified “love jihad and sexism.”

Like, seriously? Did she actually see the ad or did we just watch the wrong one?

In a country like India, which The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom in its annual report recommended to be designate India as a “country of particular for “engaging in and tolerating systematic, ongoing, and egregious religious freedom violations, as defined by the International Religious Freedom Act (IRFA)”, there is a greater need to promote interfaith harmony.
