Shahid Afridi while speaking during an event has advocated for Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman as regular openers. It is worth mentioning here the fact that Mohd. Rizwan and former skipper Babar Azam were the country’s regular openers in the T20 format prior to the recently concluded New Zealand tour during which the Shaheen Afridi led dressing room demoted Babar to the number three position while allowing Saim to partner with Rizwan. The move backfired because Saim was unable to impress. The team management has received severe criticism ever since.
Shahid Afridi Backs New Management Alongside Saim Ayub & Fakhar Zaman
Afridi while backing the support staff alongside Fakhar and Saim as regular openers said, “Hafeez has plenty of exposure in international cricket and should be given some time. If you believe Hafeez will do wonders in only one series, it is not possible”. He further said, “Hopefully Saim Ayub will gain his form as he has talent.’’
While shedding light on Pakistan’s performance in New Zealand and Australia and the team’s prospects during the upcoming T20 world cup, Afridi said, “Pakistan were not up to the mark against Australia and New Zealand. There should not be many changes to the squad before the World Cup. However, it is important to know when to rest or play a certain player.”
