PSL 2023: Haider & Naseem Promoted, Hasan & Sarfaraz Demoted

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) yesterday renewed categories of local players for PSL 2023. Pacer Hasan Ali and former skipper, Sarfraz Ahmed notably received a demotion while Naseem Shah, Shan Masood and Mohd. Nawaz on the other hand were promoted.

PSL 2023: Categories Of Hasan Ali & Sarfaraz Ahmed Downgraded

While informing about the aforesaid development PCB issued a press release that said, “The teams will now put forward relegation requests for the players before finalizing retentions. After relegation requests are floated, all teams are given an opportunity to meet the player’s base category. If the player’s base category is not matched, the player may be relegated to a category below his base category. 

“U23 players cannot be part of a squad as an Emerging player for more than two years unless they have played nine or less matches in those two years.

“The player lists have been shared with the six franchises for the tournament to be played across four venues from 9 February to 19 March 2023.”

Players who received a promotion in their categories include Mohd. Nawaz, Haider Ali (both from diamond to platinum), Mohd. Harris (from silver to Gold) and Naseem Shah, Mohammad Wasim, Shahnawaz Dahani and Shan Masood (all from gold to diamond). Former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed on the other hand was demoted from platinum to gold while pacers Wahab Riaz and Hasan Ali were demoted from platinum to diamond.
