Khawaja Asif’s arrest has created a polarizing buzz in the political scenario. The opposition and PML-N supporters have criticized the arrest.
If they attack you personally, it means they have no political argument left – Margaret Thatcher.— Amina Hassan Sheikh (@SheikAmina) December 29, 2020
This Govt is desperate and their actions are a blatant testament of that.
Chairman of Qoumi Watan Party, Aftab Sherpao also condemned the arrest
I condemn the arrest of #PMLN leader #KhawajaAsif and term it as political victimisation. Such actions would not deter but further strengthen the resolve of the opposition parties to oust this #selected government.@KhawajaMAsif @pmln_org @MaryamNSharif pic.twitter.com/ZJgh6PsM1k— Aftab Khan Sherpao (@AftabSherpao) December 29, 2020
Such tactics would only add to PDM’s momentum, government providing yet another opportunity for @MaryamNSharif to emerge as leader.#KhawajaAsif#KhawajaAsifarrested#WeStandWithKhawajaAsif pic.twitter.com/BcRvBQW4k0— Izhar Hameed Memon (@IzharHameedMemn) December 29, 2020
Sub Ka Badla Lega Re Tera Faizal…
PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif termed Asif’s arrest “a drama the likes of which he had never seen in his life.”
Hina Parvez Butt also condemned the arrest and warned Prime Minister Imran Khan
According to NAB, Asif was elected as senator in 1991. He hid his illegally gained assets by transferring them to other people’s names. In 1991 he had assets worth Rs5.1 million but in 2018 they were worth Rs221 million.

On the other hand Govt and PTI supporters consider the arrest as a great gesture of accountability and actions against corruption.

The arrest also came days after the opposition parties demanded Imran Khan’s resignation over allegations of election rigging and interference of Pakistan army in political matters.
Some people also criticized the arrest as there were many other important issues like poverty and price hike, but govt is more interested in arresting opposition.
