Saud Shakeel showed excellent control while negotiating Sri Lanka’s spinners recently during the two-match Test series. With the next ODI world cup in India where tracks are more or less similar in nature, it makes sense to evaluate the left-handed batter’s skills in the ODI format. He can definitely come in handy in the middle-order i.e. if he is able to display the ability of rotating the strike.

Abdullah Shafique is yet to take off in the ODI format. Shan Masood on the other hand too hasn’t been consistent however, his performances have been better than Abdullah. Hence, Pakistan must assess his ability in the ODI format ahead of the mega ICC event because it is important to have a back-up regular ODI openers i.e. Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq.

Mohd. Hasnain

In his short career this far, Hasnain has showed everyone the pace that he can bowl with. It’s just that he seems to be mentally weak and lacks the consistency that you need as an international bowler.

Pakistan’s pace attack is almost sorted out. If fit, Shahen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf and Wasim Junior are expected to lead the country’s pace attack during the ICC event. However, there is tough competition for the fifth pacer’s position. Shanawaz Dahani, Ihsanullah and Hasnain should all be in contention. Hasnain is nevertheless, the most experienced of the three and the one in whom PCB has invested the most so far. He was also part of Pakistan’s previous world cup squad. Therefore, it is just obvious that he deserves another opportunity at the highest level.
