Opening Combination-Saeed Anwar & Aamer Sohail

Saeed Anwar & Aamer Sohail

Saeed Anwar and Aamer Sohail were undoubtedly among the best openers Pakistan ever produced. The combination worked perfectly for the men in green during the 90s particularly, in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and there is no doubt that they would have proved to be nightmare for bowlers if T20 cricket was played during their playing days.

Hence, there is no Pakistan’s best all time T20 eleven that is possible without the two of them opening the innings.

Middle Order-Imran Khan (C), Sarfaraz Ahmed (WK), Inzamam-ul-Haq & Abdur Razzaq

Middle Order

Besides being the most successful and influential captains to have led the national side, Imran Khan is also the most complete all-rounder that the country has ever seen. Capable of negotiating with both swing and spin Imran would be my choice for the one down position as well as to lead the unit.

For the two down position I initially had Javed Miandad in mind. However, with only 20 overs in mind I later felt that a cheeky wicket-keeper batsman like Sarfaraz Ahmed would come in more handy and hence, he gets the nod ahead of the great Miandad.

For the finishers role at number 5 and 6 I would definitely want to have somebody like Inzamam-ul-Haq and Abdur Razzaq. With his ability to bowl with decent pace, Abdur Razzaq also provides extra bowling options to the skipper and hence, there is no doubt that he has to be batting at six.

Now because you don’t imagine T20 cricket without Shahid Afridi aka Boom Boom there is no way you can leave him out of Pakistan’s best all time T20 eleven. More than useful a leg-spinner and a destructive lower order batsman, you need him to be batting at number 7 when there are only a few deliveries to go and when there is a need to go big and too from the word go.

Wasim Akram is the best left-arm fast bowler that the world has ever seen and therefore, it is just understood that he is supposed to be part of this eleven. He also had this ability to hit the cricket ball a long way and thus, he is just the sort of player you want to have at number 8.

Tail-Saqlain Mushtaq, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar

Tail

Saqlain Mushtaq is easily the best off-spinner to have bowled the “Dusra” and that too without his action being controversial. Moreover, his ability with the bat makes him a handy choice at number 9 and therefore, there is little choice but to prefer him over Saeed Ajmal.

For the last two spots it has to be one of the quickest bowlers ever and the best exponents of reverse swing that the world has ever seen i.e. Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar.
