#SurgicalStrike2

Most of the sub-continent woke up to the news of an alleged surgical strike by Indian Air Force in Balakot area of Azad Jummu & Kashmir.

The Indian Version

Indian media has gone on an overdrive claiming that Indian pilots “wiped-out terrorist hideouts” during – as they are dubbing it – #SurgicalStrike2.

The Pakistani Response

On its part the Government of Pakistan under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan convened a special meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) earlier today to assess the situation unfolding as a result of Indian transgression on the Line of Control (LoC).

The NSC categorically refuted Indian claims of bombing terrorist camps and causing heavy loss of life.

The Prime Minister has also stated that Pakistan will respond to unprovoked Indian aggression at a time and place of its choosing.

There is no denying that this irresponsible behaviour by our neighbour – believed by many to be closely linked to the upcoming elections in India – has put the life and security of billions of peaceful inhabitants of the Asian sub-continent at risk.

However, while analysts on both sides of the border are offering both emotional and academic interpretations of the unraveling situation, Pakistani Twitter has found its own way to cope with the tense circumstances.

Meme-makers have taken to the micro-blogging website to take everyone’s mind off the fear of an impending armed conflict in the region.

There were quite a few jokes involving trees…

Some Twitterati actually had a few valid questions to ask from India…

Jokes aside, this uncalled for Indian aggression in the face of repeated calls for peace by the Pakistani government has dragged the entire region into a dangerous situation.

While we dearly hope that sanity prevails on both sides, we especially hope for a world where vested political interests do not trump the resolve for peace.
