Pakistan managed to beat Ireland in the only Test that was played at Malahide, yesterday. The victory against the debutants however, was no cake walk. Chasing 160, at one point with the scorecard reading 14 for 3, Pakistan truly seemed in deep waters. Hence, here is a look at 3 questions Pakistan must answer before
they face England in Tests on the 24th of this month.

Can Pakistan Employ Someone Better in the Slip Cordon?

A couple of catches that were put down of Mohd. Amir early in the second innings resulted in the Ireland winning an entire day. Azhar Ali in the slip cordon has dropped chances at crucial junctures of a game off late and therefore, we are beginning to wonder if there is anyone better in the playing eleven who can be employed as a slip fieldsman.

With better fielders like Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf in the side perhaps, the time has come for Pakistan to think outside the box and allow one of their youngsters to border the important slip cordon.

Is There No One Who Can Reverse the Ball?

It has been a while since Pakistan were last able to reverse the ball. Hence, the question arises if there is anyone in the squad who can do that for Pakistan. Hasan Ali perhaps stands the best chance and thus, needs to be inducted in the playing eleven instead of Rahat Ali.

Otherwise, Pakistani pacers need to make the most of the new ball and Shadab has to provide breakthroughs in the middle if Pakistan is to come back home victorious.

Pakistan was able to put two crucial partnerships in the Test against the Irish side. One was in the first innings between Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf while the second was on the last day of the game between debutant Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam. On both occasions batsmen looked to score rather than survive. So is Pakistan’s batting line better off looking for runs?

Frankly, with them not being technically solid, they certainly are better off looking for runs and that is how they should bat when they meet England in 7 or 8 days time.
