Distressing Images Of Destruction Emerge From AJK After The Earthquake

A 5.8 magnitude earthquake shook several cities across Pakistan including Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar and Rawalpindi. While the tremors felt in these parts of Pakistan were severe enough to make residents swiftly run out of their houses, Azad Jummu & Kashmir (AJK), it seems, has experienced most damage.

Initially there was ambiguity regarding the authenticity of the images of destruction that began emerging from AJK shortly after the quake.

However, the worst was confirmed true after DG ISPR Maj. General Asif Ghafoor sent out a tweet announcing the immediate departure of army personnel to aid relief and rescue operations in AJK in the aftermath of the earthquake.

Ever since, netizens have taken to Twitter and other social media platforms to share images and videos of – what seems like – widespread damage caused by the earthquake in AJK.

Initial reports suggest the collapse of at least one building. At least 50 people in Mirpur are also reported to have been injured.
