Former middle-order batter Basit Ali wants Shaheen Afridi to lead the green shirts and so, here is a look at whether or not the idea makes sense. It is also worth mentioning here that after a poor home season Babar Azam is under massive pressure to keep his place as country’s captain. At the moment though, he is still leading the men in green across all three formats.

Basit Ali Wants Shaheen Afridi As Pakistan’s Next Captain
While floating the idea the 52 year old said, “Babar Azam should quit captaincy. If he leaves captaincy, he will break all records and surpass records made by greats in the game. His captaincy is affecting his performance with the bat, and he should focus on his batting. Shaheen Afridi should be Pakistan’s captain. Shaheen can lead Pakistan in ODI and Test cricket if he remains fit. Shadab Khan could be Pakistan’s choice as captain in T20I cricket.”

Can’t Say It Is A Good Idea
Shaheen Afridi is to Pakistan’s bowling what Babar Azam is to the country’s batting line. If the idea of relieving the country’s number one batter of captaincy pressure makes sense then of course, it also makes sense to protect Pakistan’s number one bowler of unnecessary pressure that the responsibility of leadership brings with it.
Moreover, Afridi owing to injuries was out of action for most part during the last year. Hence going forward, managing his workload is extremely important. Therefore, it makes no sense to appoint a captain who cannot represent the country on a regular basis.
