Australia confirmed their plan to tour Pakistan while Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) just announced the squad for the T20s in Bangladesh.
Australia Confirm Their Tour To Pakistan
Australia have agreed to tour Pakistan for the first time in nearly 24 years. Confirming the development Chairman PCB, Ramiz Raja said, “I am delighted to welcome Australia to Pakistan. Australia are one of the high-performing sides and them playing in our backyard for the first time after a gap of 24 years will be a special treat for the fans. Likewise, it will be a great opportunity for the Australia cricketers to not only play at our iconic venues but also feel and enjoy the respect, love and hospitality that this great country offers, something which most of their previous generation of cricketers missed out by playing offshore.”
The schedule for the much anticipated tour is as below.
3-7 Mar – 1st Test, Karachi
12-16 Mar – 2nd Test, Rawalpindi
21-25 Mar – 3rd Test, Lahore
29 Mar – 1st ODI, Lahore
31 Mar – 2nd ODI, Lahore
2 Apr – 3rd ODI, Lahore
5 Apr – only T20I, Lahore
Australia’s Test Captain Issues A Rather Strange Statement
Despite the confirmation from Cricket Australia, Tim Paine the Australian Test captain issued a rather strange statement. Commenting on the tour, the wicket-keeper batsman said, “There’ll be some guys who will be happy to take the experts’ advice and others will want to know a bit more. If we’re totally honest, there might be some people who aren’t comfortable going regardless. That’s happened before with tours going to other countries going back forever. Again there are issues that will I’m sure pop up. We’ll discuss it, people get the right answers and feel comfortable, then we’ll get hopefully the best team we can. At the end of the day, it comes down to the individual.”
Squad Announced For Bangladesh
On the other hand for the T20 series in Bangladesh, Pakistan retained 17 out of the 18 players who are currently part of the T20 World Cup squad. The only change was Iftikhar Ahmed who has found a place because Mohd. Hafeez decided to opt out of the tour. The squad comprises of the following players.
