Test discard Fawad Alam just scored another double century during the Quaid-e-Azam trophy. There is little or no doubt that over the years, the 34 year old talented batsman from Karachi has been dealt with in an extremely unfair manner by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). What is even more sad to note however, is the fact that even the chief selectors from Karachi never backed the middle-order batsman. Hence, here is a look at who they were and how they could and should have supported Fawad Alam.
Mohsin Hasan Khan
Fawad Alam scored decently during a One Day International (ODI) series in England during the year 2010. Former opening batsman Mohsin Hasan Khan was the chief selector back then and he was known to be close to Chairman PCB at the time i.e. Ejaz Butt. Hence, he could have played a massive role in developing the international career of Fawad Alam. Nevertheless, the former opening batsman dropped the left-hander the same year only after giving him one more ODI series following the tour to England.

Iqbal Qasim
Iqbal Qasim who was a famous left-arm spinner from Karachi took over as a chief selector during the year 2012. He too like Mohsin could have helped in developing Fawad’s international career but for reasons best known to him; he never did.
Moin Khan
Moin Khan was the head coach and later the chief selector during the year 2014. Fawad Alam scored heavily under him during the Asia Cup that year. Nevertheless, Moin too didn’t persist with him for too long and dropped him for the world cup that followed next year. Hence, it was under Moin Khan’s selection committee that Fawad Alam was discarded without a justification for the first time and that too when the south-paw was really on the top of his game.

Haroon Rasheed
Haroon Rasheed took over after the 2015 world cup. Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan and Shahid Afridi had just retired from the ODIs and thus, there were a few spots available in Pakistan’s middle order. Still, Haroon did not persist with Fawad for too long and dropped him unjustly.
Sarfraz Ahmed
Following the Test retirement of Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq there was a certain case of recalling Fawad Alam to Pakistan’s Test squad. Nevertheless, the Pakistani skipper back then i.e. Sarfaraz Ahmed failed to ensure a comeback for his fellow deserving Karachite.
Anyway, now that Fawad Alam has scored another double century in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy; we hope Misbah-ul-Haq recalls him during the Test series against Sri Lanka.
