Retain Sarfraz For Test Matches Only
Reports from certain sections of media suggest that PCB is considering to remove Sarfraz Ahmed as Pakistan’s limited overs captain and are likely to retain him for Test matches only. This is bound to be a disastrous decision if it is taken. Sarfraz has an awful record while leading the green caps in the longer version of the game. He has seen games slip out of his hand one after the other during the last season. On the other hand, he has a much better limited overs record. His captaincy record in T20s in particular, is just phenomenal. Hence, if PCB really wants to retain Sarfraz as Pakistan’s captain in one of the formats then it has to be T20 where his style of captaincy suits best.

Appointing Mohd. Hafeez or Azhar Ali
Some news reports also suggest that Mohd. Hafeez’s name as captain for limited overs and Azhar Ali’s name for the next Test captain is also being considered. If true, this is just ridiculous! Why do you want to have a 38 year old Mohd. Hafeez lead Pakistan and that too with the world cup four years away with the all-rounder not performing as well as is expected of him.
Azhar Ali on the other hand proved himself to be one of the worst and the most uninspiring captain in the history of Pakistan cricket during his tenure that ended a couple of years back. So, why do you really want to have him back? It for sure, makes no sense and so, we hope PCB understands that too.

Appointing Someone Too Young
Names of Shadab Khan and Babar Azam are also circulating in news media and as of now particularly, Babar seems to be one of the favorites.
Appointing someone young as Pakistan’s vice-captain is imperative without a shadow of doubt. However, Pakistan has a history of revolts every time a junior player was asked to lead. Hence, let’s just hope that better sense prevails and that PCB doesn’t derail the career of either of youngsters by giving them the responsibility, a couple of years too early!
