Earlier in the day, in a “leaked” video, Pakistani TV and film actor, Ali Rehman Khan was seen losing his temper and lashing out at a McDonalds employee.
The reason behind this rash behavior seems to be unclear as the video begins from in between the incident.
The renowned Heer Maan Jaa star seemed to be unhappy with the way he was being treated by the employee and then, playing the VIP card, he hit him with the traditional line, “Aapko pata hai mein kon hoon?” (“Do you know who I am?”)
After this somewhat heated episode, the hashtag #AliRehmanLeakedVideo quickly became a top trend on Pakistan.
The keyboard warriors wasted no time in taking to Twitter and letting their opinions known about the VIP culture which is a norm among most of the Pakistani celebrities.
Famous celebrities from the entertainment industry along with our politicians, having this sense of entitlement to a special treatment is nothing new in our country. There have been numerous incidents in the past where the “ordinary” citizens were subjected to some audacious recklessness from the more privileged and the Twiterrati were having none of it this time.
The Pakistani public were split on social media as some of them were calling for the whole story to be revealed first before passing any judgments, while some were just outright bashing the VIP culture.
There were of course those who saw a golden opportunity to show off their meme making skills by posting hilarious visuals featuring Ali Rehman from the leaked video.
All this went on for 4-5 hours before Ali Rehman came out with another video to clear the air regarding the incident at McDonalds.
Ali has assured everyone that the incident was staged with the help of the employees and all of the stir was part of a social experiment against the #TumJanteyHoMeKonHoon culture.
Soon after, MacDonalds Pakistan’s handle also sent out a tweet endorsing Ali’s statement.
He says that “the disparity between the rich and the poor is immense in our country and the so called VIP culture doesn’t really do anything to help it”. He thanks the Pakistani public for raising their voice against this sense of entitlement and says the sole purpose of the video was to create awareness among the public to not only raise their voice but to also act on it and play their part in eradicating this disease from our society.
