Legendary Bollywood actor, Aamir Khan and his producer-director wife, Kiran Rao shocked their fans when the two announced their divorce after 15 years of marriage on 3rd July. They released an official joint statement to update about the same.

In the statement, the couple announced that they were planning their separation for quite some time. They said that they will continue to be ‘devoted parents’ to their son, Azad, and co-parent him. In their joint statement, they said they will continue to work together for Paani Foundation.

Khan who married twice, both times to women of faith (Hindu) different from his, sparked a ‘love jihad’ debate on social media, with people trolling him for marrying women out of faith and then divorcing them.

The Indian Bhakts bashed the star for practicing love-jihad and how the popular Muslim Bollywood stars are the lead promoters of it.

However, some of the actor’s close friends came to his defense to claim that if the couple’s parting ways on mutual consent, then how is it love-jihad?

Celebrated Indian film producer, Ram Gopal Verma further called out the trolls on their endless criticism, saying why on Earth are people being salty about their divorce when they’re being strictly civil about it.

On Sunday, Khan and Rao interacted with their fans telling them that they are working on Laal Singh Chadda, a Hindi remake of ‘Forrest Gump.’ Aamir Khan Kiran Rao told their fans that you must be shocked to hear the news, but we wanted to tell you that we are ‘still a family even after divorce.’
