9 matches – 5 won, 3 lost. A grand total of 11 points. 5th in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The Pakistan Cricket Team is a force to be reckoned with.

Finishing off with the same number of points (11) as New Zealand (a qualifying team), Pakistan has proven its resilience out on the pitch. A slightly higher run-rate and the Green Shirts would’ve qualified for semi-finals easily.

Nonetheless, we Pakistanis are proud of our team for continuously getting back up on their feet and giving their fans an exciting last 4 matches.

While all the Pakistani cricketers who gave it their all this World Cup deserve to be appreciated, there are a few who really shone.

1. Babar Azam

Babar Azam – truly a 24 year old living legend. Despite the fact that this was his first world cup, Babar was the top scorer for Pakistan and has scored the highest runs ever made by a Pakistani in a single world cup – already growing into one of Pakistan’s best ODI batsman. With a rating of 827, he ranks number 3 on the ICC ODI Player (Batsmen) Rankings Board.

Another talented bowler, Mohammad Amir contributed to the team greatly. So far, he has been one of the leading wicket-takers in the world cup, haven taken 17 wickets. Furthermore, he is ranked 12th on the ICC ODI Bowlers List.

3. Shaheen Afridi

Shaheen Afridi was not only the youngest player on the Pakistan cricket team, but also the best bowler. In the match against Bangladesh alone, he took 6 wickets. I think it’s safe to say we owe a lot of our success in the cricket World Cup to this dynamic player.

Yes, Pakistan did not qualify for semi finals. No, our cricketers don’t go unappreciated.

4. Wahab Riaz

With 35 wickets in 20 games, Wahab Riaz now holds the second place position for most World Cup wickets by a Pakistani bowler – surpassing Imran Khan. Despite being 34 years old, this fast bowler plays with just as much strength, energy and determination as his younger teammates. Let’s not forget he’s also a talented batsman who helped score the winning runs against Afghanistan and that, too, with a fractured finger.

5. Imad Wasim

As a brilliant all-rounder, Imad Wasim takes the fourth position on the ICC ODI Rankings Board with a rating of 299. Having scored the winning runs against Pakistan, Imad bagged the Player of the Match Award – a well deserved esteem. Pakistan can benefit from talented all-rounders like Imad!

6. Haris Sohail

Coming in at number 5 as a middle-order batsman, Haris Sohail proved his competency as a cricketer regardless of the fact that he only played in about half the matches or so. Even then, fans were quick to notice his charisma and aptitude. Coach Micky Arthur said in regard to Haris’s 89 runs against South Africa, “one of the all-time brilliant innings that I’ve seen”. Furthermore, his significant partnership with Babar Azam against New Zealand landed Pakistan a victory against the determined Black Caps.
