Former Pakistan cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq applied for the post of Pakistan’s under-19 head coach a few days back. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had sought applications after it decided to handover the position to a noteworthy former cricketer. So, here is a look at why PCB must not let go of the opportunity and why Saqlain Mushtaq deserves the role more than anyone else.

Has Sufficient International Experience

Saqlain Mushtaq is an ECB level-3 coach with sufficient experience of both playing and coaching at the highest level. Besides taking 496 international wickets during his playing days, he also has the distinction of being involved in the dressing rooms of a number of international teams including Australia, New Zealand, England, West Indies and Bangladesh.

No Other Competitor As Of Now

No other individual to have applied for the post as of now can be suggested to have credentials that are as good as Saqlain’s. Therefore, he deserves the appointment on the basis of merit.

Pakistan hasn’t produced a decent off spinner for a while now. Nevertheless, with Saqlain leading the junior side, there would be a good possibility of finding an off break who can go on to serve the senior team for a long period of time.
