Pakistan’s ODI series against Australia will take place in UAE from next month. Inzamam-ul-Haq, the Chief Selector Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has clearly conveyed that he looks forward to providing rest to some big names in Pakistan’s ODI set up before the world cup. Hence, here is a look at key cricketers who could be rested for the series.
Sarfraz Ahmed
Sarfraz Ahmed has lead Pakistan in all three formats for a while now and thus, is likely to be rested. So, in such a case either Umar Akmal or Mohd. Rizwan will occupy his position behind the stumps. As for captaincy, Shoaib Malik might be asked to lead the green shirts in another series. Nevertheless, a young cricketer might as well be given the opportunity in order to create a long term back up for Sarfraz Ahmed.
Shadab Khan
Shadab Khan has played while carrying injuries during the last few months. Hence, his performance has shown signs of it and for that reason there is every likelihood of him being rested for the 5 match rubber. The decision if taken is likely to make way for an ODI comeback for Mohd. Nawaz or an ODI debut for Bilal Asif.
Hasan Ali
Hasan Ali has represented Pakistan in all three formats for a while now. He has been in brilliant form during the PSL 4 but Pakistan might not want to exert him before the mega tournament. Therefore, Wahab Riaz or Haris Rauf are likely to find a place in the 15 or 16 member squad instead that tours UAE next month.
Babar Azam
Babar Azam is yet another cricketer who has represented Pakistan across formats for a while now. So, Pakistan might rest their premier batsman before the world cup and instead allow Harris Sohail a comeback who couldn’t play in South Africa because of an injury.
